OVO - Cirque du Soleil

The Canadian Cirque du Soleil circus company is returning to Madrid to perform OVO, which it premièred in 2009 and it is now back on stage to captivate audiences from more than forty countries. From 19 to 22 March 2026, the Movistar Arena will host this amazing show focusing on a bustling ecosystem full of life and the extraordinary adventures of the insects.  

In OVO, an awkward, quirky insect discovers a magnificent ladybug in a bustling neighbourhood and they fall in love instantly.  Their enchanting romance unfolds amidst a vibrant ecosystem, revealing a world full of energy and life. Here, insects work, eat, flutter, and play in a riot of motion, showcasing the beauty and biodiversity of their hidden universe.

As a mysterious egg appears, curiosity and awe fill the community, representing the cycles of their lives.  OVO showcases the beauty and chaos of the insect world, balancing moments of tenderness and excitement, revealing the rich biodiversity at our feet. With each new day, the vibrant cycle of insect life unfolds, filled with both contrast and harmony.

This Cirque du Soleil touring circus production premièred in Montreal, Canada, in 2009. Its creator and director, Deborah Colker, was inspired by the world of insects, but the idea was not to focus solely on the acts, dance or the insects, but on movement. In this way, the movement of life embraces the entire show, with creatures flying, jumping, bouncing and crawling. Its composer, Berna Ceppas brought OVO to life through a score inspired by Brazilian music. The term Ovo means “egg” in Portuguese and represents the common thread running through the show.
